Arthur Langford, Jr. Park
The City's Second Skatepark
Arthur Langford, Jr. Park ("Langford Park"), located just a few blocks from the future Atlanta BeltLine Southside Trail, is the site of the City of Atlanta's second official skatepark. The Joyland neighborhood skatepark was completed thanks to a grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation. A grant from the Kendeda Fund to the City of Atlanta's Office of Parks and Recreation helped fund new exercise equipment for the park.
Introducing New Options
Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark, completed in 2011, was the first official City of Atlanta skatepark. The Arthur Langford, Jr. Skatepark serves as a great alternative for residents on the south side of the city. While the new park is catered to beginner skaters, it’s filled with numerous skater amenities, inviting all skill levels out to strut their stuff.
A Nod To History
Named after the late Arthur Langford Jr., the park is in an area that historically has been underserved with public amenities. The late Arthur Langford, Jr. served as a member of the Atlanta City Council and the Georgia Senate and is the father of first lady of Atlanta Sarah-Elizabeth Reed.
Connecting To Atlanta
Once the Atlanta BeltLine is complete, there will be direct access to the skate park from the trail. With the skatepark officially open, our neighbors from Joyland and around the Atlanta BeltLine are invited to come out and take ownership of these outdoor spaces!
In a later stage of construction, the lower-level of the community center will be renovated, creating a community space that can accommodate events at the park. The space, which will also have renovated restrooms as part of the improvements, can be used by the surrounding neighborhoods to host a number of events and classes. An ADA-compliant ramp will be installed to allow access to the lower level of the facility from the main floor.
