Capital Giving Supports Transformative Projects

The Atlanta BeltLine is the most comprehensive economic development project ever undertaken in Atlanta. Our capital campaign raises critical funds to take the next steps into the future, and your contributions help keep the momentum going as we transform the City and the region.

Significant early philanthropic investments were secured when when Atlanta BeltLine Partnership launched the inaugural capital campaign in 2006. A broad coalition of public, private and nonprofit partners have helped the Partnership and Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. achieve major milestones to push the project forward.

Investment milestones include:

  • The Trust for Public Land was instrumental in acquiring dozens of key parcels, and the PATH Foundation provided expertise in trail design and construction.
  • The project has received local, state and federal government support, most notably an $18 million TIGER V grant awarded in 2014 by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership has raised more than $77 million from capital campaigns and other revenue to invest in Atlanta BeltLine projects and programs. Approximately $49.7 million has been invested with the balance already committed to projects underway.

The next stage of build-out is perhaps the most exciting yet — join us as we blaze new trails and begin this thrilling new chapter! Learn more about how you can get involved with the current campaign.

Advancing the Vision

In 2019, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation generously awarded a $17.5 million grant to the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership (ABP) toward the planning and development of Westside Park. ABP is very grateful for the Blank Foundation’s leadership, generosity, and ongoing partnership. The initial 50 acres of the planned 280-acre urban greenspace will open in phases in 2020 and 2021.

The Blank Foundation’s contribution is the lead gift in ABP’s next campaign, Advancing the Vision, an initiative to activate shovel-shovel ready parks and trails, including: Westside Park, Enota Park, Northeast Trail, Southside Trail, and the Westside BeltLine Connector. The expanded capital campaign will build on the $4.1 million raised to date in ABP’s Opening the Corridor campaign to support the construction and activation of unpaved trails along the Atlanta BeltLine, including the recently opened 4.5-mile Southside Unpaved Trail.

Regarding this partnership, Arthur M. Blank, chairman of the Blank Foundation, stated: “Everything we do through our family foundation and family of businesses is meant to instill a sense of community.  The Atlanta BeltLine has connected our city in unprecedented ways.  We’re excited to partner with the BeltLine and the City to create a new space for bringing people together through Westside Park. We want these Westside communities to feel like this is their park where residents, neighbors and visitors from throughout our city and beyond are connecting and gathering because that is when Atlanta is at its very best.”

The Future Starts Now: Opening the Corridor

In twenty years, the Atlanta BeltLine has grown from an inspiring idea to an emerging reality. To date, the project has created:

  • more than 12 miles of trails
  • 315 acres of parks
  • 2,682 affordable housing units
  • $4.6 billion in economic development

Now it is time for the critical next steps, and we need your help! Atlanta BeltLine leaders recognize the extraordinary opportunity at hand, and have developed a cost-effective, high-impact plan for immediate activation of new segments as soon as they are acquired— by creating unpaved trails.

The Opening the Corridor campaign will allow us to achieve this goal by making the full 22-mile Atlanta BeltLine loop accessible via unpaved trails that connect completed trail sections. This $5.75 million capital campaign will allow for safe pedestrian access throughout the 22-mile loop, even as work to build out the corridor continues over the next decade.

Private charitable dollars are critical to the Atlanta BeltLine’s funding for greenspace acquisition and development, as well as trail construction. This private support ensures the city can take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, now and for years to come.

The timing is crucial. The project received a well-timed infusion of $56.9 million through the 2016 T-SPLOST referendum supported by City of Atlanta voters. Private sector investments are vitally important to leverage T-SPLOST dollars, establish connectivity for all 45 Atlanta BeltLine neighborhoods, and set the stage for the continued development of one of our city’s greatest amenities.
