The 3-mile multi-use Westside Trail stitches together some of Atlanta’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods. The trail runs from Washington Park at Lena Street south to University Avenue. It’s a short walk from the Ashby MARTA station on the East-West line on its northern end, and the southern end is minutes from the West End and Oakland City MARTA rail stations on the North-South (Red/Gold) line.
The Westside Trail offers an easy connection for the Southwest Connector Trail, a spur trail extending to Westview Cemetery. The Lionel Hampton Trail meets the Westside Trail at Washington Park and continues west through mature forest and greenspace.
Washington Park features a natatorium, tennis courts and abundant greenspace. Gordon White Park is a popular gathering spot for community events and Art on the Atlanta BeltLine performances.
Venture just off the trail to Atlanta’s Historic West End. Stop on Peeples St. to experience the Hammonds House Museum, which celebrates the legacy of artists of African descent. Just around the corner on Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. sits the Wren’s Nest, historic home of author Joel Chandler Harris.
