The growth of the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood along the Atlanta BeltLine continues with construction underway on a new set of townhomes. Atlanta developer John Weiland chose location along the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail just south of the Historic Fourth Ward Skate Park on which to build 66 new townhomes.
Developers will extend East Avenue so that a path will connect the development with the Eastside Trail’s spur to the Freedom Park Trail and downtown. The Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. has been working with the area Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) and the developer on the plans to make sure that the townhomes face the corridor and connect to the path and future transit.
The railroad tracks dating back to the 1800’s that form the Atlanta BeltLine originally divided neighborhoods, but this project is just one of many lining the corridor that will work to reunite separated communities. On the opposite side of the corridor, Inman Park Village offers dining, shopping, and a walkable area that will tie into and complement the history and strength of the predominately residential Old Fourth Ward. These townhomes and other new condos and apartments along the Eastside Trail will also have direct access to the Historic Fourth Ward Park and Skate Park – two relatively new amenities to the neighborhood that residents worked for years to bring to fruition.
