Transit Study

Identifying an Equitable Direction Forward

Launched in 2023, the Atlanta Beltline Transit Study is shaping the future of Atlanta’s transit. It identifies preferred routes and stations while enhancing regional connectivity, ensuring equitable transportation solutions for all.

The Study

Doing the Research

Funded by the Federal Transit Administration and local resources, this 18-24 month study involves field investigations, stakeholder engagement, environmental screenings, ridership forecasting, and financial planning – shaping a more efficient transit system for Atlanta’s future.

Goals & Objectives

Connectivity

Provide frequent and reliable transportation that connects people and commerce.

  • Create high-capacity transit that connects to other MARTA high-capacity transit lines

  • Connect and serve key employment and commercial destinations along the Beltline corridor to promote economic development

  • Identify service areas for future residential and employment growth and higher-density land use

Sustainability

Create a sustainable transportation network connecting whole communities with services and amenities.

  • Provide affordable and sustainable mobility alternatives to car trips/ownership

  • Connect to Beltline trails and minimize negative impacts to existing trail connectivity

  • Provide connections to parks and recreational amenities, libraries, schools, and other community centers

Equity & Inclusion

Contribute to accessible and equitable mobility options for all communities along the study corridor.

  • Minimize displacement of residents and reconnect divided neighborhoods

  • Stimulate growth and development in historically underinvested areas

  • Preserve and enhance the historic and cultural character of existing neighborhoods

  • Connect to affordable housing along the corridor

  • Incorporate community voices in project design

Implementation & Operations

Develop a high-quality, community-supported transit investment.

  • Develop transit alignment with public, stakeholder, and agency support

  • Provide an implementable transit alignment that balances project cost and benefits

  • Improve existing transit service levels

  • Grow transit ridership
