Celebrating 20 Years of the Atlanta Beltline

A look at some of the biggest milestones we’re hitting after 20 years of work.

It’s official: the Atlanta Beltline is 20 years old!

What started as a big, bold idea has quickly become one of the largest, most comprehensive urban redevelopment projects in the U.S.

Over the past two decades, we've brought new trails, parks, art, affordable housing, economic opportunities, and more to the city in hopes of reconnecting neighborhoods and creating community around the city.

In honor of our anniversary year, here are 20 of the biggest milestones we’re celebrating:

  1. We’ve delivered 12.8 miles of mainline trail and an additional 10.3 miles of connector trails.

  2. Nearly 16 miles of dark fiber have been installed beneath the trail, ensuring high-speed connectivity for Beltline-adjacent neighborhoods.

  3. We’ve poured 12.9 miles of concrete on the mainline trail, creating durable infrastructure that will serve future generations to come.

  4. On the affordable housing front, 4,266 units have been developed within the Beltline’s Tax Allocation District.

  5. We’ve acquired 87 acres of land for affordable housing preservation and community-first development around the corridor.

  6. $750M has been raised through the Tax Allocation District, showing fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability.

  7. Through our Legacy Resident Retention Program, we’ve helped 270+ long-time homeowners cover the cost of rising property taxes and stay in their homes.

  8. Nearly $10 billion in private investments has been catalyzed around the Beltline.

  9. We’ve had 14 local small businesses take part in our Beltline Marketplace incubator and gain access to affordable container storefronts along the corridor.

  10. Our Business Solutions Office has provided over 50 businesses with tailored support and resources.

  11.  64 entrepreneurs have graduated from our Beltline Business Ventures program, which helps local business owners grow and scale their practices.

  12. Through our facade improvement projects, we’ve helped five businesses enhance their storefronts.

  13. We’ve helped nearly 800 people get connected to funding, resources, and customers through our business networking events.

  14. Our Atlanta Beltline Art program has brought nearly 800 arts events and installations to the corridor, making us one of the largest temporary public art exhibits and linear galleries in the United States.

  15. We’ve held 15 Lantern Parades, which have drawn in thousands to celebrate creativity and community.

  16. Through dozens of quarterly briefings and hundreds of public meetings, we’ve ensured community voices guide all Beltline projects.

  17. Our Free Fitness program has improved health equity around the corridor through approximately 80 free classes each month.

  18. Nearly 30,000 people have engaged in Beltline running events, uniting in health and community pride.

  19. 4,442 donors have contributed $240+ million to Beltline initiatives, showing the strength of public-private partnerships.

  20. We’ve welcomed 2.5 million visits to the trail annually, making the Beltline one of Atlanta’s most-visited public amenities.

But our work isn’t done yet.

As we look to the future, we’re excited to complete the 22-mile loop, expand our affordable housing efforts, support even more local businesses, and bring transit options to the corridor to connect even more people.

The story of the Beltline is still being written — and it’s a story we share with every Atlantan who walks, runs, bikes, rolls, or gathers along the Beltline, including you! Help be part of the transformative change by engaging with us at upcoming meetings, events, or on social
