Atlanta Beltline Exceeds Investment Goal, Generating 91,000 Jobs Across Atlanta Neighborhoods
Through major infrastructure investments, the Atlanta Beltline has delivered $23 billion in yearly economic impact across the region.

What started as a bold vision for Atlanta’s future has grown into a powerful example of how green infrastructure can transform communities. The Atlanta Beltline is now one of the most successful urban redevelopment efforts in the United States according to Econsult Solutions Inc. (ESI).
The Atlanta Beltline has exceeded its original $10 billion private investment goal years ahead of schedule, generating an incredible $14.2 billion in investment across more than 45 neighborhoods adjacent to the Beltline. Even more impressive, nearly $1 billion in public infrastructure investment helped spark more than 91,000 jobs and $23 billion in annual economic output for the city, resulting in a 15-to-1 return on investment.

“The Atlanta Beltline is proving what's possible when cities invest boldly in infrastructure that connects people, neighborhoods and opportunity,’” said Clyde Higgs, President & CEO Atlanta Beltline, Inc. “When I started in economic development, nobody was talking about green infrastructure in the same breath as job creation. The Beltline changed that. We're writing the book on what modern urban development looks like — expanding access to jobs, supporting small businesses, improving quality of life. That's why we call it the People's Project.”
Growth on and around the corridor provides an incredible opportunity for small businesses and residents to succeed. Committed to equitable development and commercial affordability for small and legacy businesses, the Beltline has secured 94 acres of land to expand affordable housing and commercial space. The Beltline supports longtime residents through programs like the Legacy Resident Retention Program, which helps residents remain in their communities as their neighborhoods grow. Entrepreneurs are supported through services and resources provided by the Beltline Business Ventures (BBV) accelerator program, while Beltline Marketplace creates opportunities for small businesses to connect with the community by providing affordable commercial spaces along the corridor. Progress toward housing affordability also remains strong, with 4,425 affordable housing units delivered by the end of 2025 within the Beltline TAD, achieving 79% of the goal to create or preserve 5,600 units by 2030.

The project’s impact on job creation has been significant. The Beltline’s Planning Area has become one of Atlanta’s leading employment centers, now sustaining more than 91,000 full-time jobs. We’re also equipping the community with skills through workforce programs like the Beltline’s Urban Forestry Career Pathways Program, helping prepare residents to secure long term employment.
For years, infrastructure projects were often viewed as transportation improvements or beautification efforts. The Beltline has shown that green infrastructure can be an economic engine with the capability of driving private investment, supporting small businesses, creating jobs and improving quality of life all at once.
As the project continues moving toward completion of its 22-mile loop by 2030, the original vision behind the Beltline feels more alive than ever. Click here to learn more about how the Beltline is reshaping Atlanta.
