Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. to Begin Construction on Eastside Trail Lighting

Project is scheduled to take six months to complete

Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) plans to begin construction in mid-October on lighting along the 2-mile stretch of the Eastside Trail between Monroe Drive and Irwin Street / Lake Avenue. The project is expected to take six months to complete. Upgraded security cameras will be installed at the same time.

The lights and security cameras will be installed on the western side of the multi-use trail by electrical consultant Brooks-Berry-Haynie (BBH). Trail users can expect crews to occupy portions of the trail surface in addition to the shoulder as they work their way down the corridor. Work will take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., dependent upon weather. Weekend work will only take place if necessary. Only sections of the trail – not the full length – will be impacted at one time.

Caution signs will be posted on the trails to alert users if a work zone is ahead. Please exercise care and extend courtesy to workers and fellow trail users when passing the work zone. We appreciate everyone’s patience.

Funding for this section of Eastside Trail lighting is provided through the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), TSPLOST funds, and private contributions to the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership’s Light the Line Campaign.* The lighting and cameras will be the same design and standard as those currently in place on the Westside Trail and southern mile of the Eastside Trail.

Community members are invited to attend a Northeast and Southeast Study Group public meeting on October 24 to discuss Eastside Trail lighting along with interim improvements to Bill Kennedy Way and construction on the Northeast Trail. Eastside Trail construction updates will be posted at www.beltline.org/eastsidetrail.

*Update: a previous version listed the BeltLine Tax Allocation District (TAD) as a fund source. This has been updated to reflect TSPLOST funds as a source instead.
