Business on the Atlanta BeltLine: McArthur’s Apothecary

Dr. Nakia Shaw lives his healthcare plan everyday by biking to walking to work on the Atlanta BeltLine. He and his wife have lived in their yellow bungalow in Old Fourth Ward for more than 20 years and his company, McArthur’s Apothecary, is located nearby on Edgewood Avenue. It’s more than your neighborhood pharmacy. Dr. Shaw is proud to provide advice, convenience, compounding services, and medicine to his neighbors. Hear Dr. Shaw’s story in the video below.

When it came to selecting a location for his pharmacy, Dr. Shaw knew he wanted an easily accessible building. The Eastside Trail offered walkability and a large volume of pedestrian and bicycle traffic. His own two little girls love to ride and walk on the Atlanta BeltLine.

Dr. Shaw worked with Invest Atlanta and the U. S. Department of Treasury on a business grant for which he was ultimately selected. Upon opening his new location, he began hiring from the community. Day to day, he strives to serve as a mentor for young people. In 2016,they received the Invest Atlanta Small Business Award for Startup Excellence.
