Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. Seeking Qualifications for Northeast Trail Design and Engineering

Statements of Qualifications Due March 29

ATLANTA – Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) is seeking statements of qualifications from firms interested in designing and engineering the Northeast Trail. The Northeast Trail is the segment of Atlanta BeltLine corridor between Monroe Drive and MARTA’s Lindbergh Station. Design will be done in coordination with ongoing Georgia Power work between Westminster Drive and Mayson Street.

Design for Atlanta BeltLine trails includes the multi-use concrete path, retaining walls, vertical connections, stormwater management, signage, lighting, and accommodation for future light rail transit. A pre-proposal meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 13, at 10 a.m., and qualifications are due on March 29. As with all Atlanta BeltLine projects, ABI will lead community engagement for the design process to be supported by the contracted firm. A community meeting to update the public on the status of the Northeast Trail and related Georgia Power work was held on February 15, 2018. View that presentation here.

Design is expected to begin this summer and last approximately 30 months. The segment of corridor between Mayson Street and Lindbergh MARTA will present the most difficult design challenge due to the configuration of I-85 and active rail. Funding for design is included in Atlanta Regional Commission’s 2018 recommendations for Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) allocations.

  1. Is connection to Peachtree Hills and Peachtree Hills Park in scope? The Isaksons have already donated land for the connection. Would be a shame to waste the opportunity.

    1. Hi Chris,

Thanks for the question. If a connection between the Atlanta BeltLine and Peachtree Hills Park gets built, it will likely be by a partner organization and not Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., and typically these connections get built after the mainline trail is built. I hope that helps!

    1. Hi Ian,

Presently we are in the design phase, so construction is still likely a couple years away. More details should be available about the design process later this year.

      Hope this helps!

  2. Signage behind Ansley Mall says construction zone . no trespassing. Can we walk/run on the trail behind Ansley Mall when there is no work being done ? (At our own risk of course)

    1. Hi Ms. Henry, the Northeast Trail is currently closed between Westminster Drive and I-85, including the whole stretch behind Ansley Mall. Thanks for your patience as Georgia Power completes their work!
