Agencies establish an agreement to advance common housing goals
Updated July 28, 2017
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA) and Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance common affordable housing goals. Through this partnership, AHA is stepping in as development partner for ABI-controlled land that may be used for mixed-use, mixed income housing that specifically addresses affordability for Atlanta’s working families. The agreement creates a partnership on ABI-controlled land to allow the agencies to collaborate on housing development, potentially creating hundreds of additional affordable units around the corridor.
“AHA is proud to be the lead partner with stakeholders in housing affordability and community development in the City of Atlanta,” says Catherine Buell, President and CEO of the Atlanta Housing Authority.
“Affordable housing is a team effort,” said Paul Morris, President and CEO of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. “Partners like the Atlanta Housing Authority help us ensure that affordability continues to be at the forefront of the Atlanta BeltLine so that everyone has the opportunity to call Atlanta their home.”
The Atlanta BeltLine TAD has committed more than $13 million to date for affordable housing initiatives. In 2016, ABI committed an additional $15 million of Tax Allocation District revenue and bond proceeds to affordable housing over the next three years. The MOU is effective for five years.
