Travel Advisory: Krog Street Lane Closure in Effect June 12, 2017

Detour routes for the tunnel will be in effect during the installation of lighting and handrails as part of the Eastside Trail extension.

WHAT: Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. contractors will alternate lane closures on Krog Street within the tunnel.

WHEN: The northbound lane will close June 12-30. The southbound lane will close July 1-21. Closures will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m..

WHERE: Krog Street between DeKalb Avenue and Wylie Street, within the Krog Street Tunnel beneath Hulsey Yard.

ADVISORY: During the closure period, detour routes will remain in effect to route vehicular traffic around the closure. See map below.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:  Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. is constructing the Eastside Trail extension from the trail’s current terminus at Irwin Street south to Kirkwood Avenue. As part of this work, new lighting and handrails will be installed within the Krog Tunnel, creating a pedestrian-friendly environment beneath the rail yard. Additionally, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. will address safety issues at the intersection of Krog Street and DeKalb Avenue by installing a pedestrian scramble, completely halting traffic and allowing pedestrians to traverse the intersection.

  1. You mention “pedestrian scramble” — will bicycles be allowed to traverse the intersection at the same time, when motor vehicle traffic is halted? Will it be like the situation at Monroe Drive?
