West End Park Hosts Atlanta BeltLine Westside 5K Road Race and Play Day

The 6th annual Atlanta BeltLine Westside 5K Road Race, presented by Delta Air Lines, was held Saturday July 16 at West End Park. More than 500 runners and walkers wound their way through the streets of two of Atlanta’s most historic communities: West End and Westview. Part of the course ran along the Atlanta BeltLine’s West End Trail, the first segment of the Atlanta BeltLine to open to the public.

It was a great morning for a race with mild temperatures and a light breeze, and residents in these two great Atlanta neighborhoods came out in full force to embrace the event. B98.5 on-air personality and Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Fitness Ambassador Madison James was our MC for the day. District 4 City Councilperson Cleta Winslow, West End Neighborhood Association President Stephanie Malinauskas and Westview Neighborhood Association President Octavia Vogel were among those on-hand to help with the celebration.

Saturday’s Play Day was highlighted by two half-hour readings by Akbar Imhotep from The Wren’s Nest, located just a few blocks from West End Park. As he does most Saturdays at The Wren’s Nest, Imhotep entertained children and adults alike with African-American folktales told in the style of Uncle Remus.
