The 6th annual Atlanta BeltLine Westside 5K Road Race, presented by Delta Air Lines, was held Saturday July 16 at West End Park. More than 500 runners and walkers wound their way through the streets of two of Atlanta’s most historic communities: West End and Westview. Part of the course ran along the Atlanta BeltLine’s West End Trail, the first segment of the Atlanta BeltLine to open to the public.
It was a great morning for a race with mild temperatures and a light breeze, and residents in these two great Atlanta neighborhoods came out in full force to embrace the event. B98.5 on-air personality and Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Fitness Ambassador Madison James was our MC for the day. District 4 City Councilperson Cleta Winslow, West End Neighborhood Association President Stephanie Malinauskas and Westview Neighborhood Association President Octavia Vogel were among those on-hand to help with the celebration.

Following are the results from this year’s race, the first race of the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership’s 2016 Run.Walk.Go! Race Series.

Play Days feature trained coaches and instructors providing professional instruction to kids across a variety of sports and fitness activities. Packed with fun for the whole family, Play Days are free and presented in partnership with Atlanta ContactPoint, a nonprofit established to engage children and adults through the power of play. The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership thanks Toyota and NEEF for their sponsorship of Saturday’s Play Day.

Saturday’s Play Day was highlighted by two half-hour readings by Akbar Imhotep from The Wren’s Nest, located just a few blocks from West End Park. As he does most Saturdays at The Wren’s Nest, Imhotep entertained children and adults alike with African-American folktales told in the style of Uncle Remus.

We hope to see you in December at the Eastside 10K, the final race of 2016 for the Atlanta BeltLine Run.Walk.Go Race Series. You won’t want to miss this great Peachtree Road Race qualifier.
