Recap: The Eastside Trail Gateway is Open!

The Eastside Trail Gateway is officially open! In a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Kasim Reed, the Gateway opened on Friday, August 22, connecting the Eastside Trail with Historic Fourth Ward Park. The Gateway project, which broke ground in January of this year, has been a highly anticipated connection for the Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, and Poncey Highlands neighborhoods. Users of the Eastside Trail now have a way to easily access the 12 acres of greenspace, splashpad, and scenic 2-acre lake in the Historic Fourth Ward Park.

More than 100 excited community members and supporters came out to hear Mayor Reed’s opening remarks and to join in a fitness walk with B98.5 radio personality Madison James immediately after the ceremony. Madison led a group from the foot of the Gateway up to the Eastside Trail and then north to Piedmont Park, pointing out exciting progress on the Atlanta BeltLine along the way.

The ADA-accessible trail starts at the intersection of North Angier Avenue and Dallas Street, and rises 32’ in elevation to meet the Eastside Trail just south of the Angier Springs access point. The opening comes just in time for the Art on the Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade on September 6, kicking off the temporary art exhibition which runs through November. Participants who live near Historic Fourth Ward Park can now join the parade via the Gateway. Those seeking to attend art performances in the park can now access them easily from the Eastside Trail.
