Pre-Construction Meeting for the Edgewood Avenue Bridge Replacement

In the coming months, the Atlanta BeltLine will be working in conjunction with the City of Atlanta to replace the Edgewood Avenue bridge where it crosses over the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail. Once the bridge is complete, construction will proceed to continue the Eastside Trail from its current terminus at Lake Avenue / Irwin Street south to DeKalb Avenue.

Property owners, tenants, and residents are invited to attend a pre-construction meeting regarding the Edgewood Bridge Replacement Project and the plan of action for the road work detour. Construction is scheduled to start in fall 2012.

  • When: Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Where: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 25 Boulevard Avenue NE, 30312 (parking is available on Edgewood Avenue)

  1. Can’t wait till the Eastside Trail continues on to Dekalb and beyond! But — why do you need to replace the Edgewood Bridge? Does it need to be higher to accommodate future transit or something?

    1. Hi Gerlinda,
The Edgewood Avenue bridge is in need of structural repairs that necessitate replacement. The City of Atlanta asked for the Atlanta BeltLine’s assistance, so we are working together on this project.
Glad you like the easy interaction with the new website, too!

      1. Hello Jenny Pittam
Not sure if I am doing this right on this chat page and I am for sure not in the right section/topic to ask this question and on top of that -this is a really ignorant question….but anyways…..
Can you tell me if the Eastside Trail is open to walk near the Historic 4th Ward Park?
I will be down there for dinner (Fritti Fritti) and wanted to check out Park and trail

        1. Hi Brian,
The Eastside Trail is still an active construction site so it is not open for use quite yet, however, from Fritti, I encourage you to walk down Elizabeth Street to where it dead ends into the trail. You can see the spur trail and the Eastside Trail as it runs along N. Highland and under Freedom Parkway.
          Thanks!
          Jenny
