How Do I Get There? Accessing the Atlanta BeltLine at DeKalb Avenue

Please note that the Eastside Trail Extension is under construction through the spring of 2017. You will not be able to access the trail at this location during construction. Once construction is complete, we will update our access point videos and descriptions.

The old railroad corridor that forms the Atlanta BeltLine T’s into Hulsey Yard (the CSX railroad freight yard) at DeKalb Avenue and Airline Street. Above DeKalb is the east-west line of MARTA. One block north is Edgewood Avenue and the bridge that will be replaced within the next two years.

Step back in time and you can see a photo in this video with the removal of the tracks in November 2009. Kudzu quickly took over as you can see from the photo taken in February 2010. Even as an interim hiking trail, this southern end of the Eastside Trail still gets plenty of foot and bike traffic.

Currently, the Eastside Trail, due to open in summer 2012, will be completed down to Lake Avenue / Irwin Street just north of this spot. Once the Edgewood Avenue bridge is replaced, then the Eastside Trail will extend all the way down to DeKalb Avenue. When transit is built in the corridor, it will connect to the Inman Park – Reynoldstown MARTA station just east of the corridor on Edgewood Avenue.

On a side note, the adjacent condos took advantage of the unused triangle in this spot to make a small dog park, which you can see in the photo to the top left. Another symbol of residents breathing life back into a long-abandoned space! This is the view of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor traveling east down DeKalb Avenue.

We encourage you to get out and explore the corridor as it is rapidly changing!
