Anyone wishing to film or take photos in the parks and on the trails of the Atlanta BeltLine, will need to obtain permission from Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI). To request permission, please read the filming and photography usage guidelines and complete the online form.

How much does it cost to film on the Atlanta BeltLine?

The daily permit fee is $4,000 to film or photograph on property owned or controlled by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. The full schedule of fees can be found in our Film and Photography Policy.

Please note: daily License / Permit fees apply for any filming or photography that takes place between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. of any single day. There are no half-days or minimums. Any overnight shoot that extends beyond a single 24-hour day will incur the fees for those days

Do I need to apply? Where do I find an application?

You are required to apply for a permit to film on property owned or controlled by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) if any of the following criteria applies:

  • 2+ cameras will be used
  • Stationary lighting will be used
  • Boom mics will be used
  • Filming for commercial purposes

You do not need to apply for a permit to film if you are a member of the media and you are taking photographs or filming in the course of your duties as a member of the media. However, you must notify the Communications and Media Relations office at (404) 477-3660.

I’m planning an engagement / wedding photo shoot. Do I need permission?

If your photo shoot is for personal use, you do not need permission. If it is for commercial use, you need permission.

I am having a permitted event on the Atlanta BeltLine. Do I need permission to film or photograph my event?

If you already have permission for your event (i.e. festival, wedding, concert, etc.), then you do not need an additional permit to film and photograph your event.

I use the Atlanta BeltLine frequently. How do you anticipate filming activities impacting trail and park users?

Our Atlanta BeltLine users come first. We will make every reasonable effort to ensure safety and access for users the best we can.

Does your office have stock footage of the Atlanta BeltLine parks and trails? Can I request to use photographs / b-roll that are owned by the Atlanta BeltLine?

The above Atlanta BeltLine trails and parks are owned by the City of Atlanta. Please contact the Mayor’s Office of Entertainment via their website or via their 24/7 hotline (404.295.0630) for permission to commercially film in these spaces.

Note: the future Westside Park is currently owned by the City of Atlanta.

Criteria for Permission to Film

You are required to apply for a permit to film if any of the following criteria applies:

  • 2+ cameras will be used
  • Stationary lighting will be used
  • Boom mics will be used
  • Filming for commercial purposes

You do not need to apply for a permit to film if:

  • You are a member of the media and you are taking photographs or filming in the course of your duties as a member of the media; however, you must notify the Communications and Media Relations office at 404.477.3660.

Permit Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for a permit, you have the following responsibilities:

In order to be eligible for a permit, you have the following responsibilities:

  • Submit a complete application with all supporting documents 10 business days in advance of filming. It may be possible to issue a permit within 5-9 business days of the requested filming, with a rush fee of $2,000 in addition to all other fees noted in the Fee Structure section. ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED in order to meet the aforementioned processing time.
  • Supporting documents and information include the following:
    • The correct legal name, address, phone number, and title of the person or entity who will be party to the agreement. The person or entity must have signature authority.
    • Georgia Secretary of State Certificate of Existence or current year annual registration.
    • City of Atlanta and/or Fulton County business license, as applicable.
    • Proof of insurance specific to applicant person or entity (Insurance requirements detailed below. Any insurance coverage outside of the requirements will require ABI approval and must be provided at least 5 business days prior to the film/photography date).
    • Siteplan.
    • City of Atlanta permits (as applicable).
    • Parking plans and permits(as applicable).
  • Execution of ABI’s film license agreement. ANY requested redline changes to the standard agreement will reset the processing time (must have at least 5 business days prior to the film/photography date).
  • Pay fees on time (prior to filming and photo shoot).
  • Send the script or written, detailed descriptions of scenes to Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. for review and approval by the Communications Department.
  • Notify the surrounding community and NPU (Neighborhood Planning Unit) at least 48 hours in advance of filming / photography if the applicant intends for activities to take place outside of established City of Atlanta Park hours (after 11 p.m. and before 6 a.m.). Provide proof of this notification to ABI.
  • Contact Lt. Justin Strom of the Atlanta Police Department’s Path Force Unit to confirm whether you need to hire an off-duty police officer. Phone: 404-617-0351. Email: jwstrom@atlantaga.gov and copy ABI representative on correspondence.
  • Clean and return the site to its original condition.

In order to be eligible for a permit, the proposed film or photography must not:

  • Involve or promote illegal, sexual, profane, or race-related activities on ABI property.
  • Represent views contrary to those of the City of Atlanta and/or the Atlanta BeltLine.
  • Involve inflammatory statements or views as solely determined by the Atlanta BeltLine.
  • Interfere with normal use of Atlanta BeltLine trails and parks without prior written permission.
  • Intermittent closures may be allowed and additional fees may apply.
  • Include Atlanta BeltLine trademarks without prior written permission.
  • Bring motorized vehicles onto paved portions of the parks and trails.

ABI reserves the right to reject any application for any reason, including but not limited to, the following:

  • Failure to submit a timely application.
  • Failure to submit a complete application.
  • Failure to provide proof of insurance.
  • Failure to pay fees in a timely manner.
  • Application is false or fraudulent.
  • Applicant cannot satisfy eligibility requirements.
  • Failure to notify surrounding residents and businesses in writing at least 48 hours in advance of filming or photography.

Failure to apply for a filming license agreement could incur significant fines and penalties for trespassing.

Insurance Requirements

Licensee shall purchase and maintain minimum insurance coverage during the License Term. Download Film and Photography Policy for full details.

Fee Structure

The following fees apply to filming and/or photography on all Atlanta BeltLine assets ():

  • Application fee (non-refundable): $250 payable upon submission of application
  • Additional rush fee if application is received within 5-9 business days of filming date(s)
    (nonrefundable): $2,000
  • Cancellation fee (if within 48 hours): charge for one day of filming
  • License / permit fee: $4,000 per day *
  • Fee for set-up and strike days: $2,000 per day
  • Refundable Restoration deposit: $4,000 per day of permit
  • Restoration fee: Actual cost of restoration after restoration deposit has been exhausted
  • Per diem holdover fee:
    • 1-3 days in excess: 250%of daily license fee($10,000 per day)
    • 4+days in excess: 500% of daily license fee ($20,000 per day)
  • Close-Off fee: $15,000 per day (for intermittent closures)
  • Parking-only license fee: $3,000 per day (when asset used only for parking/base camp and
    excludes filming)

* Daily License / Permit Fees apply for any filming or photography that takes place between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. of any single day. There are no half-days or minimums. Any overnight shoot that extends beyond a single 24-hour day will incur the fees for that day.

**Daily License Fees for ABI Assets may be eligible for a discount for filming longer than two weeks in duration.

Processing film and photography requests

All requests for filming and photography must be submitted to Jasmine Salazar, Asset Management Coordinator, at Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (404-477-3578 and jsalazar@atlbeltline.org). Please download the Atlanta BeltLine’s Film and Photography Policy for an outline of the full process.

Violations of the License Agreement

Any violations of the license agreement will be handled according to the agreement itself.

Unauthorized Filming and Photography

Organizations or companies that film or photograph without the required license may be fined up to 250% of the amount of the fees that would have been assessed for lawful filming/photography. ABI will pursue any and all available legal AND/OR equitable remedies.

There are two ways to submit your request:

Contact the Mayor’s Office of Entertainment via their website or via their 24/7 hotline (404.295.0630) for permission to commercially film in these spaces.

Note: the future Westside Park is currently owned by the City of Atlanta.

  • The applicant must be the person or entity that will be the party to the final license agreement and have signature authority. If an entity will be a party to the agreement, that entity must show proof of registration with the GA Secretary of State. Failure to provide the entity name could result in denial of the application.
  • Daily License / Permit Fees apply for any filming or photography that takes place between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. of any single day. There are no half-days or minimums. Any overnight shoot that extends beyond a single 24-hour day will incur the fees for that day.
  • If motorized vehicles will be used, please attach a detailed plan for vehicle use. Since the use of motorized vehicles on Atlanta BeltLine property is currently prohibited, ABI reserves the right to reject an application if this is contemplated.

    • Notice Requirements

    • If the applicant intends for the filming and/or photography to take place outside of established City of Atlanta Park hours (after 11 p.m. and before 6 a.m.), the applicant agrees to notify the surrounding community and the local NPU (Neighborhood Planning Unit) at least forty-eight (48) hours prior to the commencement of any filming and/or photography activities. Applicant shall certify that the notice has been provided, describe the means of notice, the date upon which the notice was provided, along with a copy of said notice. Said certification shall be incorporated into any film/photography license agreement.
      All entities must provide the following:
      1. Proof of insurance
      2. Site plan
      3. Detailed plan for vehicle use (if applicable)
      4. City of Atlanta permits and parking plans
      Corporate entities applying for a film and/or photography license must provide the following to ABI as part of, or an attachment to, this application:
      1. Georgia Secretary of State Certificate of Existence or current year annual registration;
      2. City of Atlanta and/or Fulton County business license, as applicable.
