Georgia Power Senior Discount Program

Georgia Power expanded its discount program for seniors in May 2024, broadening what was formerly known as the “Income-Qualified Senior Discount” to reach thousands more customers with limited financial resources.

The program provides significant monthly savings:

-Total monthly discount of $33.50

-This includes up to $24.00 for metered service and up to $9.50 for fuel cost recovery

-The discount applies only to the metered electric service and fuel cost recovery components

-It does not apply to sales taxes or other aspects of your bill

The Georgia Power senior discount requires meeting at least one of these criteria: -Be 65 years or older with a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level ($30,120, adjusted for household size)

-Receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

-Receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

-Participate in the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (HUD Section 8)

-The discount works with various rate plans including Residential Service, FlatBill, Time of Use, Pre-pay Service, and Pay By Day Service.

When applying, applicants must provide: -Proof of age (65 years or older)

-Verification of household income not exceeding $30,120

-Confirm electric service account is in the applicant’s name

-Verification that the discount is only being applied to the primary residence
