Northeast Trail - Segment 1
The full Northeast Trail – Segment 1 runs 0.9 miles from Monroe Drive to Westminster Drive, including a portion along the Carriage Trail through Piedmont Park. The full trail segment officially opened with a groundbreaking on November 12th.





Project Status
The plaza work at 10th and Midtown as well as the bike lane are complete. Renew Atlanta engineers have requested the relocation of a single vehicle stop bar, which will be relocated in mid-March. Railing work continues, both correcting issues with the installed railing and the final installation of the railing along the Carriage Trail. Landscape installation and final completion, or punch list items, are ongoing. Tree installation will continue through the end of March, followed by grasses in April. All final work is expected to be wrapped up by May.
Project Timeline
May 2020 - July 2021: Alternatives analysis and concept validation
July 2021: Locally Preferred Alternative as part of the federally funded, full length of the Northeast Trail design project
July 2021: Execute contract for design phase services
September - October 2021: Gravel installation along unpaved path
August 2023: Groundbreaking and construction start
November 2024: Trail open with with minor limitations due to the final installation work underway on railings and handrails.
