Digital Access
As the Beltline enhances mobility through infrastructure, this Smart Corridor project includes installing 22 smart hubs of technology across the 18 miles of open Beltline trail. These sites will all include public Wi-Fi access zones and a digital wayfinding kiosk.
Near the Marketplace locations additional technologies will be piloted including smart trash cans and camera visualization AI technology. The Pittsburgh Yards access point and Freedom Parkway Marketplace locations will also include the Nourish+Bloom autonomous grocery container concept and EV Charging stations somewhat adjacent to the sites.
Project Status
Work is underway on multiple locations as our subcontractor eX2 Technology and their subcontractors continue to advance site development and implementation work for our digital access and smart corridor project. Updates include:
Freedom Parkway site is mostly complete. Permanent power is nearing completion. Final devicing work is also underway to enable public Wi-Fi and camera visualization technology. Punch list items and interior build-out continues to get the Nourish + Bloom autonomous grocery ready for opening.
At the Irwin location, the beautification work to refresh of the slate chips has completed. Permanent power is nearing completion. Final devicing work is also underway to include public Wi-Fi and camera visualization technology.
The Pittsburgh Yards and Glenwood locations are nearing completion of permanent power. Final devicing work is underway to include public Wi-Fi.
The Washington Park location has received permanent power. The digital wayfinding kiosk has been set and the restoration work for the site will continue in the coming weeks. Final devicing work will follow to include public Wi-Fi.
Following the Washington Park installation, Edgewood, PCM, Jefferson, and Westside Trail Connector are next in the queue to begin construction.
The process to get permanent power in place is underway at the Boulevard, Hill Street, Milton, New Realm, Ansley, and 10th & Monroe sites.
Proposed for the week of October 19, a new electrical pole will be placed on the trail just north of the PCM site near Ponce City Market. To do this work, access will need to originate on the Beltline from Monroe Drive.
Installation of safety and silt fencing will occur around all construction areas as required.
No permanent blocking of pedestrians or trail will be done and any temporary moving of equipment through and in this area will utilize cones and a person for traffic control.
