The Great Backyard Bird Count on the BeltLine Arboretum!
Join Trees Atlanta and Atlanta Audubon to discover the urban bird life in the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum!
Atlanta Audubon will lead a short primer in the Trees Atlanta TreeHouse about the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), a worldwide citizen science event taking place February 12-15 during which people of all ages and walks of life count the birds they see for at least fifteen minutes to help scientists create an annual snapshot of bird distribution and abundance.
This event has passed.
Participants will learn how to identify common local birds and how to participate in the GBBC by submitting an eBird report.* After the primer, we’ll head outside for an Arboretum Bird Count.
This event is free and open to the public, but preregistration is requested. Families and beginning birders are welcomed. Binoculars will be available to borrow, or bring your own.
*eBird is a real-time, online checklist program that keeps track of the birds you see and provides critical data for scientists. It can be accessed as a free app on smart phones and tablets. Participants who want to get started with eBird on the day of the event are encouraged to download the app in advance.
