Little Amal: Walking with monarchs
October 8 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Little Amal: Walking with monarchs is a celebration of Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee who has spent the past two years traveling over 6,000 miles to 15 countries.
Her journeys are festivals of art and hope that celebrate the stories of refugees, immigrants and displaced people, along with the communities that welcome them.
As part of her 2023 United States journey, Amal will travel along the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail, where she’ll join the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, Liquid Sky and Mausiki Scales & the Common Ground Collective.
Because her visit coincides with the 2000-mile monarch butterfly migration passing through Atlanta, Amal will be welcomed by 100 monarch butterfly puppets. She will also encounter a number of surprises along the walk, including live music and a dance performance.
The walk will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Know Before You Go:
- The Little Amal procession will occur on one side of the BeltLine trail, and the other side will remain open. Be courteous to trail users and keep the open side clear.
- Watch Little Amal from designated viewing areas along the route.
- Please do not join the parade and the performers.
- You are welcome to follow the Little Amal procession after she has passed your viewing area and join her at the butterfly sanctuary at the Old Fourth Ward Activity Field for the finale.
