Returning to the 2014 Art on the Atlanta BeltLine performances, Toni Marie Young gets every up and moving with her interactive dance class.
2:15 pm: CORE PERFORMANCE COMPANY, ASSOCIATION MANIFESTE: Je Suis/I Am [Dance]
This work is an 18-month Creative Collaboration and Cultural Exchange between sister cities Toulouse and Atlanta. The ensemble uses contemporary dance to explore the integrally related stories of who we are and where we live. Deeply personal and concurrently universal, using text, movement and music, Je Suis intertwines both CORE’s and Manifeste’s visions of our own, and each other’s cities and countries.
3:00 pm: CROSSOVER MOVEMENT ARTS: The Stories We Build Make Us Real: Adventures on the Atlanta BeltLine[Dance]
Crossover Movement Arts return to Art on the Atlanta BeltLine for performances in Historic Fourth Ward Park. Their form of contemporary dance is awe-inspiring, accessible, and beautiful.
4:00 pm: ESTHER DE MONTEFLORES: Circus Show [Dance]
This one-woman circus show combines slack-rope, juggling, mask work, dance and puppetry exploring the ways humans and animals interact with green-space and the importance of sharing space with other creatures.
4:45 pm: ATLANTA TAIKO PROJECT: Drum Ensemble[Drums]
This interactive program includes choreographed drumming pieces by the Atlanta Taiko Project Company performers. Taiko is a form of drumming that is rarely heard outside of Asian cultural festivals or celebrations. “New American” Taiko combines multi-cultural rhythms from Africa, South America, and Asia along with American favorites such as Hip-Hop, and rock. This music melting pot provides an opportunity to appreciate the musical roots of the people who now live in our international city.
5:30 pm: KOLLABORATION ATLANTA PRESENTS: Kingsmen and Kavi Vu – The Wizard of the BeltLine [Theater]
Kollaboration Atlanta is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a creative platform for Asian American performance artists to showcase their talents within the greater Atlanta community. Kollaboration’s Art on the Atlanta BeltLine performance tells a story through a combination of spoken word poetry, dance, and theater.
6:15 pm: ANONYMOUS DA BAND: Band [Band]
What Anonymous Da Band are young people with a huge sound. This talented group is made up of four youngsters between fourteen to sixteen years old. All are students in Atlanta area public schools and are active in keeping music in their schools by participating in multiple band programs.
7:30 pm: RUBY VELLE AND THE SOULPHONICS: Band [Band]
Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics roots are embedded in the rich sound and history of Georgia soul, beginning with the early 50’s and 60’s R&B that became so well known around the world. Having performed countless gigs since 2005, and with a slew of 45rpm singles already under their belts, the band has already contributed heavily to the steadily increasing awareness of genuine rhythm and blues music that exists today. They pack clubs and festivals with their original brand of soul, all of which is written and recorded in Atlanta.
8:45 pm: CANDLESTICK CREATIVE: Sunrise Cube [Interactive Installation]
“The Sunrise Cube” is an interactive art installation that conjures the experience of witnessing the sunrise through music and dance.
ALL DAY: SALAH ANANSE: Live DJ [Music]
An internationally known DJ, Salah Ananse is providing music before, during the interim & after live performances for the final day of Art on the Atlanta BeltLine.
