2nd Annual Joan P. Garner Walk & Health Fair

This is a free family event with health screenings, fitness and cooking demonstrations, activities for children, music, a community art project, prizes, and much more. The main event will include a 2-mile fitness walk on the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail in honor of the late District 4 Commissioner Joan P. Garner’s commitment to a vision that “All People are Healthy” in Fulton County.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

MARTA

Participants are encouraged to use MARTA. The Ashby Station is the closest station to Washington Park. At Ashby, take the main exit out of the station and turn right at street level on Joseph E. Lowry Blvd. At the first stoplight turn left on to Lena Street NW. The park is just over a block down on the right.

Parking Options

Ashby Marta Station Employee Parking Lot- will offer free, fenced in parking with on-site security. It is located about 1/2 block west of Washington Park (961 Lena Street).

Washington High School Parking Lot- will offer fenced in parking with on-site security. It is located behind the school on Beckwith Street and Peoples Street.

Street parking is available in the neighborhood surrounding the park, but please be mindful to park in allowable areas and do not block the driveways of community residents.

Shuttle Service:

A free shuttle service will run between Washington Park, the Ashby MARTA Station, and the Washington High School Parking Lot. Shuttle service will start at 8:00 AM and end at 1:00 PM. The total loop will take an estimated 15 minutes.

Security:

• Two Sheriff’s deputies will be assigned to patrol Lena Street.
• The Ashby Marta Station (65 Joseph Lowery Boulevard) will have additional security by MARTA police.
• Washington High School Parking Lot will be patrolled by Atlanta Public Schools Security.
