While exploring the Atlanta Beltline, have you ever wondered what the green stickers on the light poles mean? These markers serve an important purpose as part of a wayfinding system that helps first responders identify your location and reach you in case of an emergency.

Developed in collaboration with the City of Atlanta, the Atlanta Beltline Emergency Response Mile Markers, also known as BL IDs, feature unique identification numbers that correspond to precise locations. This allows emergency responders and city workers to pinpoint exactly where assistance is needed and quickly determine the nearest trail access point.

How to Use Emergency Response Mile Markers

If you experience or witness an emergency on the Beltline, call 911 and provide the operator with the number on the nearest green sticker (as shown in the example below).

Knowing when to call 911 and when to contact 311 helps ensure concerns reach the appropriate teams. When encountering non-emergency concerns, such as fallen limbs, trail debris, or routine maintenance issues, submit a report through ATL311.
