In collaboration with the City of Atlanta and Atlanta Department of Transportation, Atlanta BeltLine Inc. will begin construction at the intersection of 10th Street and Monroe Drive. The improvement project is included in the ongoing construction of the Northeast Trail – Segment 1, which aims to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility.

The intersection will be fully closed starting from the evening of June 9, 2024, until the evening of June 14, 2024, with 24-hour closures expected. Detour routes will guide trail users and drivers via Kanuga to Virginia and Charles Allen to 8th Street, and Park Tavern will remain open along 10th Street. In case of adverse weather, the closure will be rescheduled for June 16th through June 20th, 2024.

Following the full intersection closure, single-lane closures will be implemented to finalize sidewalk construction, which is expected to be complete by September 2024. Single lane closures are expected to occur Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Key improvements include a new 10th Street bike lane providing direct access to the Atlanta BeltLine to enhance connectivity and safety for trail users, a raised pedestrian crossing to improve safety for trail users and pedestrians, improved crossings and pedestrian signals at key intersections to ensure safer travel for all users of the trail, and new traffic signals at Kanuga St NE and Monroe Dr NE to manage traffic flow and enhance safety.

The Northeast Trail – Segment 1, spanning 0.9 miles, will intersect with the Eastside Trail at 10th and Monroe and run alongside and through a portion of Piedmont Park, from Monroe Drive to Westminster Drive, where it will connect to the Northeast Trail – Segment 2. This trail will link the Midtown, Virginia Highland, and Morningside neighborhoods, and is expected to be complete in late fall 2024.

Once completed, Piedmont Park will have five direct access points to the BeltLine, enabling more Atlantans the opportunity to bike, run, and explore neighborhoods, businesses, art, and more. To view ongoing updates on the project, visit here.
