When J.C. Harris Elementary school closed in 1973, Westview residents lost their only access to a playground and field. Over 50 years later, Atlanta Beltline is gearing up to break ground on Enota Park on April 22, which will give neighborhood kids in southwest Atlanta a walkable, central location to meet their friends once again.
Located in Westview and adjacent to the West End neighborhood, this long-awaited project will expand an existing 0.3-acre playlot located on Enota Place to nearly 8 acres thanks to the usage of previously overgrown, wooded, non-developed property, and residential land purchased from willing sellers.
Enota Park will provide gathering spaces for families and neighbors, improve health and wellness for all ages, and promote economic and community growth. It will also create a space for events, youth programs, sports, and outdoor learning.
Dion Standford, who grew up on Lucille Ave. next to Enota Park and has since moved back into his childhood home, is excited to take his future grandchildren to play in the same area he once did. He said the Westview neighborhood already has pride, but now they’ll have a place to come together, put it on display and invite visitors from all over the city.
“Westview has always been a community of strength, resilience, and unity,” he said. “As we embrace new changes and welcome Enota Park, we are not just adding a park—we are investing in the heart and soul of our neighborhood. This park represents more than just land; it represents the next chapter of Westview, a place where the next generation can create memories, just as I did growing up here.”
Upon completion, the park will include a large lawn, boardwalk, overlooks, a pavilion big enough to host performances, seating area, half-court basketball, splashpad, play area, security cameras, guard rails, retaining walls, and separate bathroom and utility buildings. The construction schedule is expected to take 18 months.
Enota Park is unique because the north, south, and middle parcel will all connect to the Westside Trail, allowing easy access for residents and students who attend KIPP Strive Academy across the street.
Like other members of the Beltline team and community, Kevin Burke, ABI’s Director of Design, is “over the moon” to see the project get started.
“This original idea is now 16 years old, and we’re finally able to bring this to fruition for the neighborhood,” he said. “Among other reasons, I’m especially glad that I’ve been able to stay with the project and be able to be a part of the team that has designed and will construct this park.”
The funding for the project comes from public sources including the State of Georgia's Improving Neighborhood Outcomes, TSPLOST Moving Atlanta Forward, the Atlanta Beltline Tax Allocation District, supported by Atlanta Public Schools (APS), Fulton County, and the City of Atlanta, and Beltline Special Service District investors, and the City of Atlanta Moving Atlanta Forward Infrastructure Bond and philanthropic support from corporate and foundation partners.
The philanthropic community has played an important role in bringing this project to life. More than a dozen corporate and foundation partners, including The Coca-Cola Foundation, A Friend of the Atlanta Beltline, Georgia Power Company, Truist Trusteed Foundations: Walter H. and Marjory M. Rich Memorial Fund & Thomas Guy Woolford Trust, Norfolk Southern, and The Fraser-Parker Foundation, have invested alongside the State Fiscal Recovery Fund to provide more than $6.7 million through the Advancing the Vision campaign.
Please join us on April 22 at 3:00 p.m. as we recognize the generous contributions of the public who have believed in this project- we wouldn’t be here without you!
