If you’re a style writing die-hard, you know how intertwined the scene is with our City’s culture. If you’re not familiar with it, maybe you’ve always wondered about the story behind the colorful displays you can find throughout Atlanta and around the corridor.

Just like our local hip-hop scene, style writing (a type of graffiti that involves writing or drawing in a stylized way) first took off in Atlanta in the early 1980s. The initial pieces, created by a group called the United Kings, featured large works that could be found along the highway and MARTA lines.

By the 1990s, the City’s style writing scene was flourishing, with artists coming from around the nation to bring vibrancy to Atlanta’s arts landscape.

To honor the movement’s legacy and its impact, Atlanta Beltline Art created ATL StyleWriters Jam, a three-day exhibition showcasing the skill, heart, and soul of Atlanta’s style writers.

The third annual Jam will take place November 1-3, with activities happening around the trail from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. each day. In total, 10 spaces will either be painted for the first time or touched up by artists such as Doctor Dax (part of the Dungeon Family), MSK (one of the world’s most renowned graffiti crews) and Wane (an artist who has worked with brands like Nike, Reebok, and more).

Atlantans are invited to adventure around the Beltline during the Jam to watch pieces be created, shop from local vendors, and celebrate a movement that is deeply intertwined with Atlanta’s culture.
