Atlanta Taiko Project harnesses the power and energy of traditional Taiko drumming with diverse percussion influences from around the world.
Atlanta Taiko Project | 2016
Saturday, October 8 at Historic Fourth Ward Park at 2 p.m. The drumming ensemble performs an interactive, family-friendly program that includes musical choreographed drumming pieces by the Atlanta Taiko Project Company performers, educational facts about the history of Taiko and how it’s resurgence in the U.S. and around the world is combining world beats and modernizing this ancient art of drumming. As well, an original story will be told accompanied by percussion sound effects with opportunities for the audience, particularly children, to join in. Taiko is a form of drumming that is rarely heard outside of Asian cultural festivals or celebrations. “New American” Taiko combines multi-cultural rhythms from Africa, South America, and Asia along with American favorites such as Hip-Hop, and rock. This music melting pot provides an opportunity to appreciate the musical roots of the people who now live in our international city.
