'Mabu' is Wolof (Senegalese) meaning 'strength.' He is considered a very strong drummer and leader. We put a lot of people on our ship and play he says. Much of the Ark's work centers around projects and events that support family and community in addition to work at universities and cultural festivals. Performances such as Kwanzaa celebration, Remembrances of Dr. Martin Luther King and African-American history month generate proceeds which aid children and support poor communities in Jamaica and the West lndies. The Ark Band has performed at The Apollo, Sweetwater's, Windows on the World and the Bitter End in New York City. The Ark Band has performed in Jamaica and Africa. All of th<r musicians are vocalists and all are composers and session professionals.
