FUTURE BLACK SPACES

Floyd Hall | 2024

FUTURE BLACK SPACES is a public infrastructure design project that invites participants to design public space from a perspective of creativity and communal gaze that centers the Black experience through a hip-hop architectural framework. Participants will have the opportunity to merge informal and formal design techniques by leveraging lived experiences and inspiration from contemporary culture, while also incorporating foundational design principles.

About the Artist

Floyd Hall

Floyd Hall is an artist, engineer, cultural producer, writer, and documentarian from Atlanta, Georgia. As an artist and curator, his work often relates to the intersection of culture, media, and technology as platforms to construct narratives of place. In 2023, he curated JUSTICE, the first large-scale exhibition produced by Science Gallery Atlanta, and co-curated two photographic exhibitions with Villa Albertine, ATLiens Visit Planet MARS and Theater of Life. In 2022, he co-curated HOOKED, the inaugural Science Gallery Atlanta exhibition. In 2021, he co-curated the Museum of Design Atlanta exhibition, The Future Happened: Designing the Future of Music. Hall is also a co-founder of Canopy Atlanta, a nonprofit news organization that equips metro Atlanta residents to tell stories about the issues their communities care about most. He holds a BS in Mathematics from Morehouse College, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, and an MBA from Columbia University.
