A New Development in Affordable Housing Opens Along the Southside Trail

On February 27th, the Atlanta BeltLine and the City of Atlanta celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the newly built Stanton Park Apartments, a significant milestone in affordable housing. This development will bring 56 new affordable housing units to Atlanta’s Peoplestown neighborhood, situated at 1056 Hank Aaron Drive on the Southside BeltLine Trail.

Officials from the City of Atlanta, including Mayor Andre Dickens, joined the BeltLine and its partnering developers to commemorate this achievement. “A city as diverse and progressive as ours needs more diverse and practical housing options like Stanton Park,” said Mayor Andre Dickens. “Our hopes for a brighter future where housing affordability is the norm, not the exception, can only be accomplished by working together.”

The new three/four-story apartment complex co-developed by Woda Cooper Companies, Inc. and Parallel Housing, Inc. includes 36 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom units. These are reserved for renters with 30% to 80% area median income, with current monthly rates dependent on qualifying income. Ten units are reserved for rental assistance and supportive services through the Partners for Home’s Permanent Supportive Housing Program for residents who have experienced homelessness. This aid includes Project Based Rental Assistance through Atlanta Housing’s HomeFlex program.

The Atlanta BeltLine has set a target of creating and preserving at least 5,600 affordable and workforce housing units along the BeltLine and its surrounding areas by 2030. As of January 2024, 63% of that target has been achieved by the BeltLine’s efforts. In partnership with Invest Atlanta Inc., The BeltLine provided capital investment to bring Stanton Park to life. “We are committed to advancing affordable housing efforts throughout the BeltLine corridor, ensuring that all citizens have equitable access to living options close to their jobs, schools, and our city’s best amenities,” says CEO Clyde Higgs. “Atlanta BeltLine is on track to meet or surpass our affordable housing goal of 5,600 units by 2030 within the BeltLine Tax Allocation District (TAD)…Stanton Park is a great example of how our city and community partners work together to make affordable housing a reality.”
