Revisiting the Reynoldstown Community Space

Just north of the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail entrance at Memorial Drive sits a patch of modest greenspace with a bewitching power to draw people together. In fact, long before this eastern segment of BeltLine trail was completed, since the earliest days of Art on the Atlanta BeltLine, the area served as a small outdoor performance venue. Then, as the community fell in love with the space, the vision for what could be began to stir, simmer, and bake.

Today, that vision has evolved—thanks to the culmination of community feedback—into the Reynoldstown Community Space. Envisioned as a long-term cultural landmark and community amenity, the design will combine public art, landscaping, and path connections, and feature monumental sculptural forms that act as formal public art and seating when the space is passive and as a component of the performance venue when active.  Music and theatrical performances, small weddings, casual neighborhood gatherings, or a nice spot to read a book off the trail and people watch—the activity potential for the area is abundant.
