Are you passionate about the Atlanta Beltline and also comfortable on the seat of a bicycle? If so, you might have a future as an Atlanta Beltline bike tour guide.
After taking 2020 off because of Covid, the Atlanta Beltline Partnership relaunched its free public bike tour program last August. In less than two weeks we sold out our entire 2021 season of free Saturday morning tours of the Westside Trail. By the end of the season in November, we’d conducted 11 tours and introduced close to 200 participants to the trail and the historic neighborhoods it passes through. We hope to launch our 2022 season in the spring with more tours and additional routes. That means we need more tour guides!
Being a Beltline bike tour guide is fun and rewarding. Here’s what we’re looking for and what you can expect:
First and foremost, we’re looking for guides who are eager to share their knowledge of and passion for the Atlanta Beltline project and work of the Atlanta Beltline Partnership with others. We can teach you all about the past, present, and future of the project, but your enthusiasm is what will set you apart from other applicants and help you give the best tour possible.
A strong fundamental knowledge of cycling basics and safety protocols (both on-trail and on-road) is helpful. You’ll need your own bike and helmet. Tours are capped at 20 participants each and there are two guides per tour (lead and sweep).
Our Westside Trail tours run from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday mornings (departing from and returning to the parking lot at the Lee + White development) so weekend availability is essential. We plan to offer additional tour routes this year and may offer tours on other days/times so schedule flexibility is helpful.
Tour guides receive branded, high-visibility t-shirts and are paid a small stipend for each tour they participate in.
We hope to launch our 2022 tours in early April so time is of the essence. If you’re interested in sharing your passion for the Beltline with other cyclists and/or if you have questions, send an email ASAP to john@atlblp.org and tell us why we will want you on our team.
