After approximately one year of construction, the connection between the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail and Historic Fourth Ward Park has reopened. Located across the trail from Common Ground, the stairs and elevator provide an easy way to move between greenspaces, restaurants, businesses, and the BeltLine corridor.
The stairs include granite bike runnels on both sides. The elevator features glass panels on all sides, allowing for natural light and increased safety. The elevator was specially constructed with strollers and bikes and is sized for up to three bikes simultaneously. It will operate 24-hours a day year-round.
The connection is the first phase of the new 12-acre development at 760 Ralph McGill Boulevard by local developer, New City, LLC. New City is underway on constructing the office, hotel, housing, and retail components of the site, but accelerated completion of the connection for BeltLine users. The full project will include additional access through the development, including a grand staircase and a one-acre public plaza. The overall project is expected to be complete in fall 2022.
