A Locally Preferred Alternative was announced in July 2021 as part of this federally funded trail design project from Monroe Drive to MARTA Lindbergh Station. The consulting team will deliver a locally-funded set of construction documents for the 0.9-mile project segment from Monroe Drive to Westminster Drive. The target for construction letting is Spring 2024.
Through fall 2021, ABI will install approximately 14’ of gravel on the existing rail bed of the unpaved trail from Monroe Drive to behind Ansley Mall (slightly north of the extent shown in the map below). This project is made possible thanks to a generous contribution from the Speedwell Foundation.
Gravel installation began in September 2021, starting at the wooden bridge over Clear Creek behind Ansley Mall and working down to Monroe Drive. Some trail closures will be required and signs and detour routes will be clearly posted. Work should be complete by the end of October, barring any unforeseen circumstances. It is expected to take approximately 30 days.
