The Atlanta BeltLine is so much more than just trails, and our parks are true gems along the city’s “emerald necklace.” We want to show a little love to our parks, so starting now through the fall, we will be rolling out our “Park of the Month” series! We hope it will help you find greenspaces on the Atlanta BeltLine that you haven’t discovered yet, and maybe even show you something new about your favorite parks!
In April, we are highlighting Tanyard Creek Park. The 1-mile Northside Trail runs through this park, and it’s one of the most scenic stretches of the corridor. Beautiful trees shade the trail, and Tanyard Creek is home to some aquatic critters. Visiting Tanyard Creek Park is a great way to reconnect with nature, or clear your mind in a serene setting.
As lovely as the Northside Trail is, it’s about to get even better. The PATH Foundation is leading construction on an extension of approximately one half of a mile to connect the Northside Trail to Northside Drive by the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center. The Northside Trail also connects the park to Bobby Jones Golf Course by way of Louise G. Howard Park, a former residential lot purchased from the Howard family by the Trust for Public Land.
Tanyard Creek Park sits in the Collier Hills neighborhood and is home to the Run.Walk.GO! series Northside 5k each spring. In 2015, the race is on April 25, so if you haven’t registered yet, it’s a great reason to check out this park and the surrounding neighborhoods!
With 15 acres of greenspace, there is plenty to explore at Tanyard Creek Park. There is even an opportunity to brush up on your Atlanta history, as the Civil War Battle of Peachtree Creek took place here. Over the Northside Trail, a gorgeous trestle supports active rail run by CSX.
Watch for more about Tanyard Creek Park throughout April, and send us your photos, too! Don’t forget to tag @atlantabeltline so we can share them with our followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
