Atlanta BeltLine Run Club Grows

Has your New Year’s resolution to work out more and live a healthier lifestyle faded into a distant memory over the past few months? We have a solution! The Atlanta BeltLine Run Club and Running Series is a great opportunity to meet people and kickstart your running again with 3-4 mile informal runs along the Atlanta BeltLine corridor. Plus, with the spring weather right now, it’s the perfect time to get outside!

On March 22, Park’s Edge off of North Highland in Inman Park enthusiastically hosted us for our second monthly Atlanta BeltLine Run Club courtesy of The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership. Roughly 100 runners and walkers joined us (up from 70 people at our first-ever monthly run in February!) around 6 p.m. to mingle and warm-up before the 6:30 run. Thanks to the time change two weeks ago, we were able to enjoy the full run and after-party in the evening sun. The 3.25 mile route traveled through Inman Park, onto the Freedom Park Trail, crossed over the Atlanta BeltLine, and passed by Historic Fourth Ward Park. We also had a 2.25 mile option for beginners and walkers – something for everyone!

Afterwards, Park’s Edge opened up their restaurant and patio with free drinks and free appetizers. Runners and walkers spilled out into the shaded driveway that overlooks the new spur connecting the Freedom Park Trail to the Atlanta BeltLine where concrete was just poured this month. Participants really enjoyed the opportunity to run and socialize, including representatives from various running groups and clubs. People also kept asking when the next monthly run is (see below for the answer to that question).

Tes Sobomehin of RunningNerds is a key organizer for our events (along with Dan Popovic, our Race Director), and Tes said:

When I visited the location a week earlier to scout the route, the owners and Executive Chef of Park’s Edge were very inviting and gave me a preview of the set up they had planned. They are excited to give back to the community and build ties with the Atlanta BeltLine. They were present and helpful throughout the entire event and truly delivered and made some fans!

So when is the next Run Club event? Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 19 at Taqueria Tsunami where you will get a sneak peak of the Atlanta BeltLine Northside 5K! Then come out and run the Northside 5k a week later on April 28. Registration is filling up fast and there will not be race day registration, so be sure to register at http://run.beltline.org.

Let’s keep spreading the word through social media and the running community here in Atlanta to get people out for free food, free drinks, socializing and, of course, running! You can stay up-to-date with all of our running activities on our Atlanta BeltLine Running Series facebook page.
