Recap: Third Quarterly Briefing of 2017

On September 21, 2017, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) hosted its third Quarterly Briefing of 2017. This was the first Quarterly Briefing to be led by new ABI President and CEO Brian McGowan. At the meeting, we presented updates on the Westside Trail (which officially opened September 29) and updates on the first phase of the Eastside Trail‘s southern extension (opened on November 3.)

Additionally, we introduced the procurement process for Enota Park design, which will expand the existing Enota Place Playlot to an 8-acre park between Lucile Avenue and I-20 on the Westside Trail. Proposals for the project have been received, and more information will be available when a contractor is chosen.

ABI also discussed the multi-year Subarea Master Plan update effort. The purpose of these updates is to guide growth for vibrant, livable mixed-use communities by applying best management practices for transit oriented development, mobility, green space, and alternative modes of transportation.

Finally, we also delivered an update on Art of the Atlanta BeltLine in two parts. First, we presented a sample of the visual art and performances that would be in the parks and on the trails this year. Second, we reiterated our apology for the insensitive artwork installed on the bridge over Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. Art on the Atlanta BeltLine is a program that prides itself on diversity, inclusion, and celebrating the culture of each Atlanta neighborhood. We missed the mark on this particular piece. Please click here for our full statement on the issue. You can see the roster of artists with information and photos here: art.beltline.org/artists.

The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership (ABP) participated in the 3rd Quarterly Briefing, providing updates following ABI’s presentation. ABP works to enable the project by raising private and philanthropic funds, engage the public through programming and events, and empower Atlanta BeltLine residents via partnerships in health, housing and economic opportunity.

ABP reminded attendees that providing official bus, bike and walking tours that give people an up-close look at their Atlanta BeltLine is one important aspect of how they engage with the public. The Partnership also delivered updates on the Run.Walk.Go! Race Series, which hosted the Westside 5K on July 15 and will host the Eastside 10k on December 2. Registration for December’s 10K is still open – click here to sign up. ABP also provided updates on September’s Boulevard Crossing Play Day and their ongoing series of Homeowner Empowerment Workshops.
