Reminder: Ponce de Leon Avenue closes again this weekend for Eastside Trail construction!

Closure Begins Friday, March 30 at 9 p.m. and Ends Monday, April 2 at 5 a.m.

Just a quick reminder for our neighbors who travel along Ponce de Leon Avenue regularly: starting Friday, March 30 at 9 p.m., the stretch of Ponce between Ponce de Leon Place and the Midtown Place Shopping Center (across from Ponce City Market) will be closed until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 2. Last Saturday, the bridge over Ponce de Leon Avenue was raised off of its existing abutments as part of the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail construction. The road reopened one day ahead of schedule. This weekend, crews will install decking and scaffolding to protect cars and pedestrians in order to begin the process of remediation, retrofitting and repainting the bridge as part of construction.

All vehicular access points to the shops at Midtown Place, the Kroger shopping center, Ponce Place and Ford Factory Lofts will be open and accessible during this road closure!

The Eastside Trail project, now under construction, spans more than two miles from the tip of Piedmont Park to Inman Park and the Old Fourth Ward neighborhoods. It is the next major component of the Atlanta BeltLine slated to open to the public. This project includes a 14-foot wide multi-use concrete trail for walking, running, biking and skating, as well as a significant amount of underground infrastructure to accommodate current and future utilities. It also includes retaining walls, landscaping and the preservation of right of way for the transit system which will be built in the future. The Eastside Trail is the first part of the trail system to be built within the old rail corridor, which will eventually connect 45 neighborhoods.

Additional weekend closures can be expected to lower the bridge and complete construction of the Eastside Trail later this spring.

Detour: Detour signs and off duty-police officers will be provided to direct motorists.

Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. appreciates the public’s patience and understanding while work continues on this transformative project.
