A Solar Wind on the Atlanta BeltLine

We in Atlanta were lucky to be able to witness a partial solar eclipse on August 21, and in north Georgia, some folks even witnessed the event in totality. Whether you saw the eclipse or missed it, you can see our own homage to the sun right on the Atlanta BeltLine. Phil Proctor’s “Solar Wind” is a monumental new sculpture on the northeast interim hiking trail behind Piedmont Park, just north of Evelyn Street.

The sculpture joins more than 40 pieces in Art on the Atlanta BeltLine’s continuing collection. Phil Proctor is a veteran sculptor for the Atlanta BeltLine, with the Iron Column towering over the Eastside Trail and work featured in the 2015, 2014, and 2013 Art on the Atlanta BeltLine exhibitions.

More art is coming to the Atlanta BeltLine now as we prepare for the 2017 exhibition launch with the September 9 Lantern Parade. Check out Solar Wind along with dozens of new installations on the Eastside and Westside Trails, or browse our gallery to see past art!

While we eagerly await the opening of the 2017 exhibition, below are some photos of Phil’s piece in progress. Enjoy!
