Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Announces Resumption of Bus and Walking Tours for 2017

(Atlanta, Georgia, February 17, 2017) The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership (ABP) has announced the resumption of Atlanta BeltLine bus and walking tours for 2017. ABP also announced that IHG Foundation will sponsor the bus tour program for 2017.

Bus Tours

Now in their eleventh season, ABP’s popular Atlanta BeltLine public bus tours returned from winter hiatus on Friday, February 17. Tours depart from the Inman Park/Reynoldstown MARTA Station every Friday and Saturday at 9:30 a.m., returning three hours later to the same location. The tour – described by the New York Times in a September 29, 2016 article as “a  litmus test of Atlanta civic pride” – follows along the entire 22-mile Atlanta BeltLine loop, passing through each of the 45 neighborhoods connected by the trail. Experienced guides offer insight into the project’s history and future, and make sure tour-goers gain an appreciation for the project and the diverse neighborhoods it connects. Tour buses are ADA-compliant and comfortably seat 32 guests. Tickets are $25 each and reservations can be made at beltline.org/tours. Private tours are available for groups of 32 or more. Contact Alice Weston at alice@atlblp.org for information on private tours.

ABP also announced that IHG Foundation is a Presenting Sponsor of this year’s bus tours, and that Whole Foods Market and CLIF Bar & Company will donate bottled water and snacks, respectively, for 2017 tour-goers. A portion of IHG’s funding will go toward providing access to tours for groups that might not otherwise be able to experience an Atlanta BeltLine bus tour. Organizations interested in bus tour sponsorship opportunities should contact Salisha Evans at salisha@atlblp.org.

“The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership appreciates IHG Foundation’s generous sponsorship of our bus tour program, and we thank Whole Foods Market and Clif Bar & Company for their assistance, as well,” said Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Executive Director Rob Brawner. “The bus tours are one of the most popular ways people connect with the Atlanta BeltLine. These is no better way to get a sense of the project’s scope and how it is impacting the neighborhoods it passes through than to take one of our bus tours.”

“As the IHG Foundation marks our one-year anniversary, we are excited to begin working with the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership,” said IHG Foundation Board Member Paul Snyder. “Through the bus tour program, thousands of people from all walks of life will be able to experience the Atlanta BeltLine first-hand. We are proud to support an innovative organization that shares our goal of investing in the transformation and improvement of local communities.”

Walking Tours

The Partnership’s walking tours of the Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum – provided in partnership with Trees Atlanta – also resumed on Friday, February 17. Tours depart from behind Parish in Inman Park every Friday and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and end 90-minutes later at Ponce City Market.  Led by expertly trained Trees Atlanta Docents, tour-goers enjoy fresh air, spectacular views of the Downtown and Midtown skylines, and learn about the horticultural collections of the newly accredited Eastside Trail Arboretum. Attendees also experience first-hand the positive changes the project is having on Atlanta’s communities.

Take the tour at different times of the year to experience the seasonal differences of the various horticultural collections. Arboretum walking tours are free but reservations are required and can be made at beltline.org/tours.

“Two of the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership’s main goals are finding new ways to connect people to the Atlanta BeltLine and encouraging active, healthy lifestyles,” said ABP’s Brawner. “Trees Atlanta is a key strategic partner of ours and they’ve done an outstanding job developing and managing this popular walking tour program.”

“The Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum is a great way for the community to get involved with the Atlanta BeltLine project and reconnect to Atlanta’s trees and urban ecosystem,” said Trees Atlanta’s Co-Executive Director, Greg Levine.

Bicycle Tours to Resume in March

ABP also offers popular bicycle tours of the east side and west side of the Atlanta BeltLine. ABP’s bicycle tours, sponsored by Mountain High Outfitters, are scheduled to resume in March. Watch beltline.org/tours for more information.
