Every Day is Bike Day in Atlanta

Guest blog post: The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition

In many cities across the U.S., May is known as National Bike Month. We’ve seen tremendous growth in the number of people biking in Atlanta and we’re starting to see the bones of a healthy network of safe and connected bikeways that will help even more people ride. The Atlanta BeltLine provides a safe cycling corridor and connections to buffered bike lanes, such as the 10th Street protected bike lane. With an additional 30 miles of bike lanes funded through the city’s infrastructure bond, these measures increase ridership and contribute to awareness and safety of the cycling community.

Here at the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, we’re especially excited about the launch of Atlanta Bike Share this fall, expansion of the Atlanta BeltLine, and Atlanta’s position as a Green Lane City (meaning we are dedicated to building more protected bike lanes in the city). Atlanta is well on its way to becoming a safer and more enjoyable city to ride a bike.

2014 Atlanta BeltLine Annual Bicycle Tour

The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition loves getting people together at events like our bike commuter breakfast (this month’s attracted more than 120 people to join the Bike Commuters of Atlanta and Central Atlanta Progress for coffee and breakfast at Condesa Coffee on Auburn Avenue), but we want to make it safe enough to bike in Atlanta that you can have a bike commuter breakfast every morning!

The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition advocates for better bike infrastructure and safer streets to make it safe for all Atlantans to enjoy a bike ride any day of the year. Join us for events this May and June to celebrate all the biking progress we’re making in Atlanta!
