Secretary of Transportation Pays a Visit to the Atlanta BeltLine

The U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx paid a visit to the Atlanta BeltLine last Wednesday on his “Invest in America, Commit to the Future” tour. Secretary Foxx’s tour took him across eight states, from Columbus, OH to Dallas, TX to raise awareness for transportation.

The Secretary’s visit to Atlanta included a tour of the Atlanta Streetcar Vehicle Maintenance Facility, a bus ride down the streetcar line through the King Historic District, and a walk through the Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark for a look at the Eastside Trail.

Secretary Foxx called the Atlanta BeltLine “game-changing” for its potential to spur connectivity and quality-of-life improvements around the 22-mile loop and throughout the city of Atlanta.

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded an $18 million TIGER V grant to the City of Atlanta last September. The grant will help to fund the Westside Trail, a 3-mile portion of the Atlanta BeltLine in southwest Atlanta.
