Atlanta BeltLine Wins ARC Development of Excellence Award

On Friday, November 1, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) held its annual State of the Region Breakfast. At the event, the Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail received the  ARC’s Development of Excellence Award for “Exceptional Merit for Adaptive Reuse.” Staff from Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership and the PATH Foundation were on hand to accept the award. The keynote speaker at the event was Chris Leinberger, whose study “Walkable Urban Places (WalkUPs)” was released last month. The report shows that the Atlanta area has hit peak sprawl, and its research reveals that urban places are the future for development in the region. This is important news not just for the Atlanta BeltLine, but for the City of Atlanta and the entire region. As mobile, walkable lifestyles are increasingly in demand, places that support those lifestyles will represent a growing share of new development in the Atlanta region.
