Film Festival in Historic Fourth Ward Park This Weekend!
posted in Historic Fourth Ward Park, Parks // 05/16/12

Ever wanted to watch a film in the beautiful open air theater at Historic Fourth Ward Park? Well, now’s your chance! On May 18 and 19, the 1st Annual Cans Film Festival (ha ha), benefiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank is coming to the park! Here’s the 411:

Enjoy top movies under the stars and all for a great cause. Scheduled to coincide with the highly acclaimed Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, the Cans Film Festival will feature top award winning and critically acclaimed films in the picturesque Historic 4th Ward Park. On Friday, movie fans are encouraged to come and enjoy dinner served up by some of Atlanta’s favorite food trucks along with live music preceding the film screening. On Saturday, the event will expand into a full day of activities with food, an artist market, lawn games and kids’ activities leading up to the featured film screening at 9pm. Admission to the event is a donation of 3 canned food goods or a $5 donation.

From their press release:

Friday, May 18
The Trip
7pm ‐ Food trucks and seating area opens at /9pm ‐ movie screening
The Trip brings director Michael Winterbottom and the hilarious Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon back together in a sidesplitting road comedy. The film follows the pair on a hysterical odyssey that has won over audiences at the Toronto and Tribeca Film Festivals, and has critics rolling in the aisles. When Steve Coogan is asked by The Observer to tour the country’s finest restaurants, he envisions it as the perfect getaway with his beautiful girlfriend. But, when she backs out on him, he has no one to accompany him but his best friend and source of eternal aggravation, Rob Brydon. As the brilliant comic duo, freestyling with flair, drive each other mad with constant competition and showdowns of competing
impressions (including dueling Michael Caines, Sean Connerys and Al Pacinos), the ultimate odd couple realize in the end a rich amount about not only good food, but the nature of fame, relationships and their own lives.

Sat, May 19 noon
Midnight in Paris
12 pm – event start food trucks+artist market+kids / 9pm movie screening
Directed By Woody Allen and starring Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Owen Wilson, Michael Sheen Alison Pill and Adrian Brody
Gil and Inez travel to Paris as a tag‐along vacation on her parents’ business trip. Gil is a successful Hollywood writer but is struggling on his first novel. He falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after they get married, but Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. When Inez goes off dancing with her friends, Gil takes a walk at midnight and discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for writing. Gil’s daily walks at midnight in Paris could take him closer to the heart of the city but further from the woman he’s about to marry.

*Movies subject to change and all movies are rain or shine.

The Cans Film Festival is sponsored by Stella Artois and is produced by Premier Events and Special Events Network in conjunction with the Taste of Atlanta Foundation.
